Although the Society strongly supports redevelopment of this triangular space close to Lawrence Hill roundabout, we regret that we cannot support the erection of a new 6-storey perimeter block.

The developer First Base proposes to redevelop the site of the former Gardiner Haskins Homecentre between Old Bread Street and Straight Street, Old Market.

The proposed University of Bristol new library will be located on the site of the current Hawthorns building. The Society continues to support a development of a library on this site but regrets that it cannot support this proposal.

University Hospitals Bristol has appealed against the Council’s refusal in March 2019 of the planning application to build a multi-storey car park in Marlborough Street.

Planning permission was granted on the 23rd September on Planning Officer’s recommendation to approve with the Chair’s casting vote.

There is an excellent likelihood of a happy ending to this long planning story. Unite Students have retained Alec French Architects to make a planning application which the Society unreservedly supports.
