There are three award winners in 2025, with plaques presented at the Design Awards event on 18th June 2025, hosted by The Digital Futures Institute of the University of Bristol.
Cargo Work
This latest component of the Wapping Wharf scheme with a contemporary office building reflecting its industrial dockside setting with stacked light-filled cargo boxes. The Awards Panel was impressed by the unique and “fun” architectural design with the physical interaction with the historic wall limited to a hole punched in the historic wall. The project has maximum visual impact when travelling from Bathurst Basin when the clearly modern containers are seen perched above the much older wall.
Bristol Digital Futures Institute
A very early part of a developing part of Bristol. The Panel was impressed by the considered and clever architectural design that leans into the industrial setting, highlighting the parts of the existing building that are attractive, robust and historic, with high ceilings, stone walls and steelwork. There is a strength to the interior fit out that is also warm and welcoming due to the material palette.
Stonebridge Park
The Panel was impressed by this project’s vital contribution to addressing our ongoing housing crisis while supporting society’s most vulnerable residents. The units are thoughtfully positioned to maximise the benefits of the site, creating long views. The architectural response demonstrates how targeted design can address the specific spatial and social requirements of residents transitioning from homelessness to independent living, within well considered home design.
