The Society strongly supports this regeneration development. Bristol was the first city in Britain to build an electric tram service. In 1899 the Grade II* listed Generator Building was opened to supply power to the trams.

Change Real Estate, the developer, and their architects the Nash Partnership have applied to redevelop this 0.47 ha site in Southville to deliver about 148 new homes and 2,000 sq.ms. of commercial space.
On the 29th November 2017 Councillors approved the planning application. The Society supported the redevelopment but joined Historic England and the Bristol Urban Design Forum in their criticism of the height of the scheme.

On the 15th November 2017 Councillors approved the redevelopment scheme for Redcliffe Wharf, which will commence in the New Year.
The developer has filed their planning application for Portland Square, which the Society supports. The scheme would reinstate the terrace with materials to match the existing elevations.

The Society has commented on draft plans for Nelson Street. These comments follow an on-site visit. The plans, funded by the Cycling Ambition Fund programme, include a segregated contraflow cycle lane.
On the 29th November 2017, Councillors approved this planning application on the planning officer’s recommendation. The Society is disappointed with the outcome of the planning process that could have produced a much better scheme.

The site is largely cleared of buildings except for the Coop’s derelict former furniture factory, a Moderne-style that faces Bath Road. The Society supports the construction of higher-density housing in this area.
The Hadley Property Group proposes to construct 159 apartments in a 16-storey residential tower (14 above street level) with lower blocks facing the Bath Road. Commercial space will be along the riverside area.
