When the government published a long-awaited consultation on national planning policy, we took the opportunity to respond.

The Society has responded to the latest consultation on the Local Plan Review. This consultation covers only certain themes, not the whole Local Plan, building on the 2018/19 consultations.

Bristol Civic Society has objected strongly to proposals for the former Barts Spices site on the corner of York Road and St Luke’s Road, Bedminster.

We object very strongly to the proposed residential tower block on top of Castle Park Energy Centre. Tall buildings are not essential to meeting the housing crisis in Bristol.

Although consistent with the Master Plan for the greater Silverthorne Lane redevelopment site, we have a number of serious concerns over proposals for plot 6 Silverthorne Lane.

The proposal for redevelopment of the Mickleburgh store is out for consultation and it has much to commend it.

The Secretary of State has decided not to call in proposals for St Mary le Port and it is now for the Council to determine whether the scheme progresses.

The Society has commented on the latest draft of the Whitehouse Street development framework. On balance, we think that the employment objective should be strengthened.

The Society supports in principle the proposals to replace the Galleries with a mixed-use development but does not accept the need to include a high-rise tower in the development.

We welcome redevelopment of this rundown site but have a number of concerns with this proposal for 85 one- and two-bedroom apartments.

We support the proposed development of the 1970s Canningford House office building on Victoria Street.
