Once again the Society is holding a Winter Social in the Watershed early in the New Year – a welcome opportunity to catch up with old friends and discuss the state of the city.

Covering around 130 hectares to the east of Bristol Temple Meads Station, the Temple Quarter project aims to transform the area into a series of thriving, well-connected mixed-use communities.

A new series of walks around the city centre led by Gordon Young which will run throughout the last quarter of the year.

A Zoom event presented by Eugene Byrne who has been collecting tall tales from Bristol’s distant and recent past for decades.

A zoom event at which Kathryn Chiswell Jones, the company manager of Artspace Lifespace, explain what ‘Meanwhile Space’ is, including examples in Bristol.

As part of our art-related autumn events, we have arranged a tour of Spike Island, Bristol’s international centre for contemporary arts. The tour will be guided by Robert Leckie, its Director.

Francis Greenacre will lead a tour of Merchants Hall, home of the Society of Merchant Venturers. After the tour Francis will answer questions on the activities of the Society.

Following his fascinating talk on the Theatre Royal, Tom Morris, the former artistic director, will lead a small group on a tour of the theatre.

A guided walk led by David Blackburn covering the history and development of Bristol’s Harbour Railway.
