Zoom event: Underfall Yard, Wed 7th April 2021

A Zoom talk by Andrew Blayney, Heritage, Learning and Volunteer Manager at the Underfall Yard.

Since the creation of the Floating Harbour in 1809, Underfall Yard has played a central role in the development of Bristol. The closure of the City Docks in the 1970s resulted in the loss of much of the industrial infrastructure and ‘feel’ that once characterised the area. As a working boatyard comprised of listed and Scheduled buildings that also welcomes visitors, Underfall Yard is a unique and important survivor. This talk explores the elegant engineering behind the creation of the harbour and considers the yard’s Victorian workshop, vintage hydraulic equipment, Patent Slipway and its ongoing use as a base for Harbour maintenance, boatbuilding and boat repair.

Members and event notification subscribers will receive an invitation to this Zoom meeting by email. The talk will start at 7.30pm on 7th April 2021.
