Join Pete and Allan Insole on a fascinating 90-minute walk tracing the evolution of mid-19th century Cotham through its building materials on Thursday 28th May, at 7.15pm.
The identity of Bristol and its historic neighbourhoods is, in many ways, defined by its distinctive architecture and building materials. And these, in turn, are defined by the area’s underlying geology and industrial development.
Our short walk around Cotham will explore the evolution of the city’s built fabric, the sources of the stonework we see in our walls and paving and how this mid-19th century neighbourhood is connected to the origins of our modern planning system.
There are just 30 places available on the walk, which will be led by city historic environment officer Pete Insole and local geologist Dr Allan Insole.
The walk starts at St Matthew’s Church, Clare Road, off Cotham Side, and finishes at St Michael on the Mount.
Tickets cost £5. Members have been invited by email to book a place.
