We have organised a visit to see this new community-led project, which aims to regenerate the old Bowls Club and establish it as a social hub. The club had been closed and vacant for several years, when members of the local community came together and formed a Community Interest Company to take it over and regenerate it, not merely as a bowls club but a social hub for the area. After a lot of hard work, and a crowd-funding effort, it opened to the public in May this year. The visit starts at 10.30am.
So join us to see and support this very worthwhile endeavour. There will be a short talk at the start, about their story so far and plans for the future, and we hope that some of the directors will be on hand. There is a stretch tent on site, so there is shelter if it rains, and a cafe/bar, where drinks and snacks will be available at modest cost.
For more information about the project, see their website.
Access: The address is St George Park, Lake View Road, Bristol BS5 7AF. The Club is within the park, next to the tennis courts and skate park, about 0.2 miles from the Church Road entrance. Church Road (A420) is served by numerous bus routes. For those who need to use a car, there is a (free) Council car park at Chalks Road, BS5 9EN
Accessibility: This is “Work in Progress” but temporary arrangements are in place to support wheelchair users and visitors with limited mobility. See FAQs on their website for more details.
