New Bristol Local Plan to 2045 – Scoping Document

About the Bristol Local Plan 2025
The Local Plan guides how development across Bristol will be shaped, setting out where new homes, jobs, infrastructure, and community facilities will be located. It should contain policies to ensure development contributes to building strong, healthy communities, creating vibrant places, and responding to the climate crisis.
This Scoping Consultation is the first of three consultation stages for the Council’s new Local Plan 2045. The purpose is to gather public thoughts on what should be included in the Local Plan and how citizens wish to be engaged throughout the plan-making process.
Key Consultation Themes
The Council is seeking feedback on eight central themes:
- A growing and inclusive economy
- Supporting health and wellbeing
- Homes for all: safe, healthy neighbourhoods
- Density, urban living and design
- Making it easier, greener and safer to travel into and around Bristol
- Accelerating climate actions and nature recovery
- Enabling thriving places: public infrastructure and services
- Minerals and Waste Plan
If you want to put in comments yourself:
- Consultation Window: The consultation opened on 9 September 2026 and closes on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
- Online Survey: Submit responses directly via the Council’s online survey.
- Alternative Formats: Requests for paper copies, Easy Read, large print, Braille, British Sign Language, or alternative language formats can be made by emailing consultation@bristol.gov.uk or calling 0117 922 2848.
