Plaques and pedestals: Spring 2023

Words written into our streetscape

Following the success of the three city-centre walks last autumn, Gordon Young is repeating them throughout the Spring. We’ll focus on commemorative plaques and inscribed statue pediments.

  • Walk I: 9th & 12th March 2023. Meet at 10.30am, Spicer & Cole café at the RWA (across from the Victoria Rooms, Clifton, BS8 1PX). From there, the route follows Queens Road, Berkeley Square, Great George Street, College Green, St Augustine’s Parade, Christmas Steps, Perry Road and Park Row to the Museum.
  • Walk II: 23rd March & 16th April 2023. This walk will progress from the Centre into Queen Square, Wapping Wharf, Narrow Quay, Millennium Square, Cathedral Walk and Deanery Road.
  • Walk III: 3rd & 7th May 2023. From the Centre to Lewin’s Mead, Tower Lane, Broad Street, Corn Street, St Nicholas Street, Wine Street, Union Street and Castle Park.

See the Autumn-Winter issues of Better Bristol for Gordon’s description of the walks’ key attractions.

Booking details will be sent to members by email nearer the date.
