122 Bath Road – Update March 2022

The Society remains concerned about the neighbourhood impact of proposals for the development of 122 Bath Road and cannot support the revised application.

Castle Park Design Competition

A design competition for delivering 80 homes organised by Goram Homes and Bristol Housing Festival has been won by Groupwork and McGregor Coxall.

Bristol Western Harbour heritage assets

In 2021 a Bristol Civic Society working group was set up to identify heritage assets in the Western Harbour development area. This post has a link to their website.

Passage Street

The Civic Society objects to a proposal to demolish a perfectly good, recently constructed building. If redevelopment is considered, the Society objects to the current scheme on the grounds of its excessive height.

St Mary le Port: update January 2022

We have made a formal request to government to ‘call in’ the St Mary le Port proposals and to establish a public inquiry to examine the proposals independently.

Park Row consultation

The Bristol Civic Society supports the principles of proposed improvements to Park Row, Perry Road, Upper Maudlin Street and Colston Street, but has some concerns.

Purpose-built student accommodation

Although we have welcomed the preparation of the draft supplementary planning document on purpose-built student accommodation, the Society’s has a number of concerns with the document.

Mead Street guiding principles

The Civic Society supports the Guiding Principles and general aspects of the proposals for Mead Street but has concerns as to whether the site is appropriate for high density residential buildings.

Bristol Zoological Gardens

The Society is disappointed by the lack of ambition with the proposal to developed Bristol Zoological Gardens site.
