Fishponds Community Planning Group represents the interests of its community to the Atlas Place developers, and to other agencies involved with this major development.
Atlas Place in Fishponds is one of the largest brownfield development sites in Bristol. Over the next 10 years, its new homes will bring up to four thousand new residents to the area. Yet there is no masterplan for this development and no assessment of the impact on, or future needs of, the local community.
Lori Streich, Co-Chair of Fishponds Community Planning Group, will talk about the Group’s approach: the challenges, the pitfalls, and the successes to date. She will also reflect on lessons for all communities facing large or small developments in their areas.
Lori Streich has many years experience of engaging communities with issues that affect them and supporting both people and organisations to have a voice. In a voluntary capacity, she chaired Arnos Vale Cemetery Trust through its restoration process; and was the Chair of the Carriageworks Action Group, bringing together the various (and at times disparate) community voices and wider stakeholder groups to articulate a vision that influenced the development of that critical site.
