BRI car park: March update

A Planning Committee refused the Hospital’s planning application for a multi-storey car park. Among other matters they said the application proposes excessive and unjustified levels of parking within the City Centre and would give rise to congestion and unacceptable impacts on highway safety and a loss of amenity.

The proposal would worsen air quality in an area proven to have already high concentrations of pollutants and would prevent the Council from fulfilling its legal obligations of reducing nitrogen dioxide to below the legal maximum. It would fail to safeguard the users of the area.

The proposed loss of 36 family sized houses in a sustainable city centre location is unjustified, with no mitigation for the loss.

Initial Civic Society review.
