Princess Street: May update

The ‘Land South of Princess Street’ application 25/11778/F has been approved, ushering in the tallest building in south Bristol. Unusually, it went through a tortuous saga of three planning committees in January, March and April 2026.

Throughout the drawn-out process senior Council officers pressed through the approval of a bad scheme, with aspects that are contrary to planning policy, despite the valid concerns of councillors on the Planning Committee. How it will look close-up from the “Bedminster Conservation Area” (within the area covered by the Whitehouse Street Regeneration Framework) has never been revealed in the submitted visualisations.

Being deeply concerned, the Society was vocal at all three meetings, and so were local objectors representing themselves and community groups, and at least three local ward councillors who are not on the Committee.

Since the approval, local voices have been preparing to submit a judicial review of the decisions.
