Reviving high streets, particularly suburban ones, is currently a major challenge. Bristol isn’t on the list of places that have been announced to receive central government funding but it still has to deal with declining high streets, particularly in the less affluent suburbs. The Council has established a team to work on the subject.
Civic Voice (the national association for civic societies) is working actively in this field and its director, Ian Harvey, will give us a presentation on the issue, possible solutions and Civic Voice’s role.
Ian is the Joint Founder and Executive Director and was one of two individuals who set up the Civic Society Initiative and then Civic Voice. He is a Senior Fellow at the Institute of Place Management (Manchester Met University) and sits on the Government’s High Streets Task Force Executive Group.
