Significance in the Historic Environment – Zoom Event : 16th July 2020, 13.00

Understanding how and why we value particular places is fundamental for deciding what should be preserved and what can be changed, ultimately ensuring that what is important survives to be appreciated by future generations.

Emma Bryant, Purcell Senior Heritage Consultant, will examine the concepts of heritage significance, the legislative background and the different ways significance can be defined. Also discussed are the often conflicting values and ways to represent or articulate significance. Finally it discusses how significance can be used to shape and guide design proposals and assess impact. Hosted in conjunction with Bristol Civic Society, this free webinar will be hosted online.
