We have arranged a visit to the tannery of Thomas Ware and Sons, Coronation Road, for Wednesday 22nd April at 18.00. The tour will last for some two hours.
This business, established in 1840, remains the biggest of the traditional leather tanneries, and their processes combine traditional methods with cutting edge technology to produce high quality leathers in demand the world over. In 2018, they received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of their export success. We are promised a history of tanning from 60,000BC to the present in what should be a fascinating, if smelly, visit.
Address: Thomas Ware and Sons Ltd, Clift House Tannery, Coronation Road Bristol BS3 1RN
Access: There is car parking on the site, and the Frayne Road bus stop (bus 24) is 4 minutes walk away.
