The photograph shows this site on the opposite side of Bath Road from Arnos Court Park. The site is largely cleared of buildings except for the Coop’s derelict former furniture factory, a Moderne-style that faces Bath Road. The Society supports the construction of higher-density housing in this area, which is well supplied with amenities and is close to the city centre.

The Bath Road runs left to right across the photograph; the Totterdown Bridge is to the left of the tower block. The Hadley Property Group proposes to construct 159 apartments in a 16-storey residential tower (14 above street level) with lower blocks facing the Bath Road. Commercial space will be along the riverside area. Parking spaces and the service area will be below ground level.

Colston Hall

The Society strongly supports the Bristol Music Trust’s planning application to carry out phase 2 of the transformation of the Colston Hall to ensure that the Hall meets or exceeds UK and international standards of audience experience, acoustic performance and accessibility. The scheme will restore the Victorian elements to reveal the beauty and grandeur of the original conception. The new foyer will then reach its full potential to provide access and ancillary facilities to sustain multiple concurrent events.
